My New Bike!

Yayyyy, I've got me a new bicycle!

I popped into the Post Office this morning and waiting in line read a few notices, thinking I might pick up a couple of jobs from upcoming events, when I spotted an ad for a 'Girls Mountain Bike'. At £30 this sounded like a snip so I rang immediately and the bike was still for sale. Only two minutes away, when I arrived the cycle had been trundled out for my inspection. The front tyre needed pumping and one side of the front brakes was sticking a bit, front tyre showing signs of wear and the odd spot of rust starting to show thro, not badly though. So I offered £25, figuring it'll need a little money spent on it.
I cycled around the square - bit wobbly cos the seat was a bit too high for my little leggies but it felt good! It's 18 gears, lord knows how many of those I'll use but I'm rearing to go!
I've asked a friend if he'll look at the brake and lower the seat. I don't have the tools to lower the seat, else I could at least do that bit! I did have a go at it with a spanner but it kept slipping and I figured I might damage the bolt and end up making it round instead of however many sides it has!
Oh, I did break something on it already -but have superglued it back on - the front reflector! We managed to get it in the back of my car but the reflector broke when I was dragging it back out again.
Watch this spot for cycling news!!!!

Oh! Down beside that red fire light.

Well done!

Hey awesome! Can't beat that deal with a stick. Our gas prices here in the US are about to spike and I was thinking just today that hubby and I will have to start cycling to the grocery. I think it will be fun!

You should name you bike...something very British...

I've just made room in the shed for the new bike ... having to pull out the 'old' one I've realised it really is in mint, almost brand spanking new condition. I'm having thoughts of using some of the 'bits' on the new (secondhand) bike. Except I can't find any spanners, grrr.
Actually, I'd thought to give the old (new) bike to a local school to sell at the PTA car boot sale and they can add whatever to their funds. Now I've seen how new it is ... nah, I'll still do that, can't be fagged with the hassle of selling it .... I might get a buyer like me!

A name ... A british name ... hmmm, how about Cecily??

Wendy, I have to confess that I did go fill my car up today. It was only one-third full but it did occur to me that if Rita hit then petrol supply may be a little spadmodic for a day or two and we know what panic hit us here last time. Price? Well, you have to pay what you have to pay, huh?

I think I'll have to ruin the 'rugged' look by sticking a basket on the front for my camera. Hmmm, Maybe I could put the equipment in a camera packback? The only problem with the cycle to work thingy though is that I stand to smash up about £3,500 of photographic equipment if I fall off!
Ping ... Stabilisers!! LOL
Hey, Wendy, have you seen the trikes available nowadays? You could have a shopping basket on the back .. or a two-wheeler with a little tow truck!
I think I'm getting a little carried away with this, y'know!

Ok, but if you have a basket then you have to get a little silver bell and purple ribbons hanging off the handlbars...Cecily will be devine. Then you can go for a ride and eat chips. LOL

Yeah, we filled our car yesterday. It may hit $4 a gallon...sick. Why does our hurricane affect Britain? 20% of our oil comes from the Texas coast..do you all import our oil?

You think you were joking about the chips bit, don't you??
WE have an Egon Ronay recommended chip shop in the town! It's owned by a lovely man who's in his 80's and I get a free portion if he's in!!
Actually I think the last 'scare' created here was due to fears of increase in price and scarcity because there was due to be a strike as a protest against rising prices.
Y'know, I really should read the papers and not just look at the pictures!

I really should get my bike out of the garage. It has been sitting there for over 2 years now. I think I will have a look at it this weekend and sort out its tyres. Look forward to your cycling news.

Great, we can have a cycle blog! I'm not going anywhere 'til my seat's lowered! I just wobble too much and I'll end up ass over tip.
Anyone know the law about wearing helmets??
Does anyone take any notice of it anyway?
Would it make a difference to me if I fell on my 'ead??
Let me know if you give your bike a dust down, Kat.
Erm, has YOURS got a name?

Oh, I forgot - Wendy, decorating Cecily ... I've already pinched the reflectors from old (new) bike and put them on the wheels of the new (old) bike - maybe I'll get a couple more and I'll look like a Ferris Wheel at night! :)

You don't need to wear a helmet but you are not allowed flashy lights on the bike. On clothing, yes, but bikes must be lit by steady state systems. Construction and Use of Vehicles Regualtions 1977 (lighting).

Does that mean I could have a helmet with a blue flashing light on the top - I would be wearing it, after all!!
I've got a dynamo light on the old (new) bike but all the wires run within the frame and there's special holes drilled for it so I don't think it would be at all practical to ... what's that word when you takes things off one item to put on another???
I'm having a senior moment day - oh hell, that means it's progressed from senior moment to senior 24hrs! something to do with skeletons?
I can't type the whole phrase into a theasaurus!: "when you takes things off one item to put on another"

??? What are you babbling on about? Senior moment day? Skeletons?

Yes, you could have a flashing helmet. You'd look a bit of a prick, but it wouldn't be illegal, unless that was the only thing you were wearing of course.

Taking things off one thing to put on another - transvesticism?

Can I have a ride please?

You talking about a tandem jump? When two people are fixed together for a parachute jump? I think the 'chute was only designed for one. In fact, with the weight of the 'chute and the angle of the seat, into which I was harnessed, if I'd HAD to jump out I doubt I could unless the glider was upside down! In the event, the scariest bit was only when we landed and the wheels rumbled a bit on the ground!
(Deliberately misunderstanding)
Oh come on GW ... listen, when you go to a breakers yard and take something off a vehicle to put on another one you are .... doing what?
Don't say saving money!

Good but nah ....... I'll think about it while I'm out taking a picture ... it's raining and horrid, yeuk.
One of those days to hunker down with a cup of hot chocolate and a book with head resting on the thigh of a nice guy.

Yes. I call it 'bike'. When I am struggling up hill it gets a double barrelled name.
